Days 1–3 · Qingdao
Qingdao is one of those Chinese cities that feels immediately unfamiliar: terracotta-roofed villas, Gothic churches and former European concession buildings sit beside a long seafront and a very different local food culture.
The first three days are built for walking. Start in the old concession district, move through Signal Hill and the historic waterfront, then let the city shift naturally towards its beer and seafood culture.
What to Eat
Pier-Side Seafood
The waterfront is where the city’s relationship with the sea becomes obvious. Look for morning catches such as blue crab, sea urchin and razor clams, then have them prepared nearby rather than treating seafood as a formal restaurant meal.
Qingdao Beer Culture
Qingdao’s beer history is part of the city’s identity. The old brewery district gives the food-focused walk another layer: local beer, simple snacks and an atmosphere that feels much more local than a generic international waterfront.
