From Foshan to Shenzhen, the route moves between old southern traditions and the modern Pearl River Delta. Further east, Chaozhou and Shantou bring the food, architecture and history of the Teochew coast before the journey finishes in Xiamen, with its colonial streets, coastal neighbourhoods and piano villas on Gulangyu.
