Days 6–8 · Zhangjiajie
Sandstone pillars rising 300 metres from mist — the landscape Avatar appropriated. National Forest Park opens at 7:30am; be at the cable car by 8am before the cloud burns off. Tianmen Mountain glass walkway. Bailong Elevator — the world’s tallest outdoor lift.

What to Eat in Zhangjiajie
Tujia Smoked Pork (腊肉) — Cured over wood smoke and hung in the rafters of mountain households. Dense, salty, with a flavour you cannot replicate outside these mountains.
Rice Tofu (米豆腐) — Soft tofu-like blocks made from rice flour rather than soy. A Zhangjiajie regional specialty.
